Newark Garden Tour Highlights Gardens, Art & Music
Take a self-guided tour of eight Newark area gardens on Saturday, June 9, and experience how art and creativity can shape your landscape in both small and large spaces. You’ll see lush perennial beds, winding brick pathways, peaceful ponds, shady nooks, and delectable vegetable gardens.
The tour, which runs from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., also features garden art, live music, gardening demonstrations, and tips to inspire every gardener. Lunch, plant divisions, and garden art will also be for sale. The rain date is June 10.
Tickets are $20 and can be purchased on the day of the tour or in advance by calling the NAA. Children ages 12 and under are $10.
The tour starts at the NAA, 276 E. Main St., Suite 102, in the Market East Plaza, where guests will pick up a map to the garden sites.
For more information and tickets, contact the NAA at 302-266-7266 or info@newarkartsalliance.org. Regular hours are Tuesday-Sunday, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., with extended hours on Thursday until 6 p.m.
This program is made possible, in part, by grants from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
Get the Winning Bid!
The annual “At Your Service Auction” gives you plenty of chances to bid – on anything from fine arts and crafts to a baker’s special dessert to art supplies. Or you might win a dinner party created just for you or that collectible you’ve been craving.
The date is Saturday, May 12, from 6-9 p.m. at the NAA. Admission is free. Potluck appetizers and beverages will be served, so come socialize and celebrate. Bidding is silent and tables close throughout the evening.
Got a thirst to make music?
Quench it at the NAA! Local music lovers have come up with two events that give people a chance to get together and play, just for the fun of it.
First Sunday Music Jams
The "Every Sunday Music Jam," which has been offered for more than a year under the guidance of our very own Jeff Smith, is making a change. We’re now holding the jam on the first Sunday of each month from 12:30-4:30 p.m. – although it's best to come early because if there are no guests by 3 p.m. or so, Jeff packs up his guitar and heads home.
It's an "open house" situation where musicians of all types bring an instrument, perform a bit for each other, and jam as talents and interests allow. Listeners welcome, too!
Drum Circle

Our free, informal drum circle meets the fourth Friday of the month (except November and December) and the fifth Friday in March (3/30) from 7-8:30 p.m. Participants are asked to bring a drum or other percussion instrument, and melody instruments (such as flute, clarinet, etc.) are also welcome.
Moderator Rebecca Sullivan says the focus is primarily on African and Mideast rhythms, but all drumming is welcome. There can also be dancing, if space permits. Children should be accompanied by parents.
No advance registration is needed. Donations will be solicited but not required. Info: Rebecca Sullivan, 302-562-4515 or Lorelei.dancer@gmail.com.
